Lucknow — A major controversy has surfaced within the Uttar Pradesh Police after constable Sunil Kumar Shukla was suspended for allegedly violating departmental rules by posting viral videos accusing police officials of corruption in reserve police lines across the state.
Shukla, who was posted at the Lucknow Police Lines, had reportedly gone on a 20-day leave during which he uploaded multiple videos on social media alleging irregularities and corruption within the Lucknow Commissionerate and other reserve police lines in Uttar Pradesh. The videos quickly gained attention online and triggered intense discussion within police circles.
According to officials, the allegations raised by the constable were treated seriously, prompting the department to initiate an internal inquiry. A three-member investigation team led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) was constituted to examine the claims and record Shukla’s statements regarding the viral videos.
However, Shukla reportedly expressed a lack of confidence in the departmental investigation and demanded a magistrate-level probe, arguing that only an independent inquiry could ensure impartiality in the matter.
Following the inquiry, the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) suspended the constable on charges of indiscipline, violation of departmental protocols, and allegedly tarnishing the image of the police force through social media activity. Officials also claimed that the videos had the potential to create dissatisfaction and unrest among police personnel.
Departmental authorities maintained that internal matters should be addressed through official channels rather than public platforms, stressing that public dissemination of allegations against the organization violates service conduct rules and disciplinary norms.

During the suspension period, Sunil Kumar Shukla has been attached to the Lucknow Police Lines and will remain under departmental supervision while further proceedings continue.
The controversy has sparked wider conversations around transparency, whistleblowing, and freedom of expression within disciplined forces. While some people on social media supported the constable’s decision to raise concerns publicly, others defended the department’s action, arguing that organizational discipline and established procedures must be respected.
The case has also drawn attention because Shukla’s wife is reportedly posted with the Rae Bareli Police, adding to public interest surrounding the matter.
Meanwhile, another police employee, Neetu Singh, a woman constable posted at Naka police station, has also been suspended over alleged social media-related activities. Authorities, however, have not yet publicly disclosed detailed charges against her.
The incident once again highlights the growing role of social media in exposing internal disputes within government institutions, while also raising difficult questions about accountability, institutional discipline, and the limits of public dissent within law enforcement agencies.
